🖥 Behind port 2374

No BBS. Just the game.

The MugenMUD server is a modern, standalone host for the classic 1.11p engine. There's no Worldgroup menu to wade through: you connect, you log in, you play. Everything new is added from the host side, around the engine, so the game underneath plays and calculates exactly the way your hands remember.

Connect in a minute

  1. Open any telnet-capable client and connect to mugenmud.net on port 2374. On this site you can just hit the Connect button if your system has a telnet handler.
  2. Use an ANSI terminal, 80 columns wide. 80×25 with a classic DOS (CP437) font looks the way the art was drawn.
  3. At the login screen, type NEW to register: pick a handle, enter your password twice, and add an email if you like. One account is one character, named after your handle.
  4. Roll your character: race, class, then gender (male, female or other) and, on PVE, whether to start Lawful.
  5. Coming back? Answer Login: and Password:. Q quits.

★ What the host adds

Stock engine, modern server

Real accounts

Your login lives in its own account store, separate from the game world, with properly hashed passwords. The server never stores or logs a password.

Fair-play protection

IP tracking per account and per character, an IP ban list, a cool-off for repeated failed logins, and a timeout for idle login screens.

No more daily boot

The daily rollover respawns monsters, renews floor placements, restocks shops and processes banks while you stay connected. You'll see a short pause, and that's it.

Exp/Hr on TOP

The server samples everyone's experience every 15 minutes and fills the Exp/Hr column of TOP with your rate over the last hour of play.

Buy-lives

The Temple Healer (and the healers who share its words) sells buy life: one extra life for 10,000,000 copper, up to nine. Any mix of coins works, and you get change.

Word wrap

Long lines wrap on word boundaries at 79 columns, the way Worldgroup did it, so nothing gets chopped mid-word.

Locked content, unlocked

Races, rooms and spells that were locked behind add-on modules nobody can buy anymore are open.

Gender at creation

Male, female or other, asked right after you pick a class. set gender changes it later.

MegaMud-friendly

Built and tested to play nicely with MegaMud. Every content change ships with matching MegaMud and MudPlay data.

🔧 Built in the open

A realm that keeps moving

The world is built with our own MugenMUD Editor: rooms, monsters, items, spells, shops, classes, races and the ANSI message screens, with every change carried into MegaMud and MudPlay data the same day.

Bugs get fixed fast. Feedback goes to the drawing board. Got an idea, a room you want to write, or a bug that ate your character? Bring it to the Discord.
